Southlands Shopping center – a destination for back to school shopping fun

giftbagsIf you live in central or north Denver you might not have heard of or had the chance to travel down to Southlands Shopping Center. If not, you’re missing something. It’s worth the drive and particularly for back to school shopping!

We got there early to the coffeeshoplovely Legend’s Coffee House and enjoyed a fabulous (and much needed) cup of coffee. After receiving our gift bags, we headed out to see what Main St. had in store for us.

Whether you’re a parent or a foodie or just enjoy a nice walk, Southlands Shopping Center has something for everyone. I enjoyed browsing spices at the Savory Spice Shop and didn’t even know where to start with the fabulous World Cellar Wine, Beer and Spirits Shop (with the fabulous attached cafe that looks like an amazing stop for lunch).

bestfriendscloset2My first shopping stop was “My Best Friend’s Closet” which has clothes for women (and some for men) who are older. “My Kids Closet” – just across the street handles kids and babies clothes. With an amazing selection of “gently used” (some with tags still on) clothes, I was able to spend just $25 and get 3 shirts, a pair of shorts and a pair of pants.

bathandbodyworksAt H&M I found an awesome shirt and had a great time looking at all the cool clothing. Hopping over to Bath and Body Works, I found a great selection and awesome prices – they always have a deal going and you can often get buy one get one offers on your favorite scents!

And it turns out I’m the only geek Mom alive who hadn’t found Hot Topic where I got two t-shirts on a buy one get one for a dollar deal for my daughter!

For the entire fabulous shopping experience (which included a lot of browsing and eating) I was able to spend $100 and get 4 shirts, 2 pairs of pants, 2 t shirts for my daughter, a selection of lotions and bubble bath from Bath and Body works and a brush for my son (yes, he needed one). Yes, I’m a thrifty shopper, but I’m also a picky shopper and restaurantsamplerI found enough to do all of my back to school shopping at Southlands!

You may say “but I live in another part of town – that’s a long drive”? But this is an excellent destination experience!

With an AMC theater, a huge variety of restaurants including Buffalo Wild Wings, Ted’s Montana Grill, Old Chicago’s and much more – you can easily spend the day. We had the opportunity to try some of the fabulous specials from these restaurants and I’m sure even the pickiest family member would find something to fuel their shopping for the rest of the day!

The day we were there there was a wonderful Farmer’s market, but there’s always something going on. There are even a ton of Poke-stops – which one of my fabulous fashion friendly friends says is an awesome way to keep the kids occupied with Pokemon Go while you hit the dressing rooms!

There’s so much more to do than can be done in one shopping trip…so for a destination trip, pick your favorites, but be sure to plan on staying for lunch and maybe even dinner!

And be sure to join Southlands for their 10th anniversary celebration on October 8th with entertainment, a pancake breakfast, family fun walk and a concert!
