What Is National School Choice Week?

Launched in 2011, National School Choice Week (NSCW) has grown into the world’s largest celebration of opportunity in education. School choice means giving parents access to the best K-12 education options for their children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling.

The Week is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort welcoming all Americans to get involved and to have their voices heard. Across America, over 40,000 celebrations will take place during NSCW in 2019. Over the past seven years, more than 58,000 NSCW events have been planned across the country and around the world. These celebratory events raise public awareness of the different K-12 education options available to children and families while also spotlighting the benefits of school choice.

In Colorado, There are a variety of school choice options available for many of the 1.3 million children living in Colorado. Families in Colorado can choose from traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling.  Colorado will celebrate National School Choice Week 2019 with 550 events and activities across the state.
