New moms who are breast-feeding and pumping understand the inconvenience of having to hold the pump. One of our reviewers had the opportunity to try out the Simple Wishes Signature Hands-Free Patented Bra, which retails for $39 and comes in two colors: pink and black. The bra has a front-zip that allows the flanges of the breast pump to stay in place so women can use their hands for other things besides holding on.
“While there are four pieces of cloth surrounding the flanges, the bra is not heavy,” said product reviewer, Brooke Maulsby. “The reality is that pumping is inconvenient. This bra lets me sit on my bed or with my kids on the couch and use my hands.”
The bra comes with an extra one-inch insert to zip into the front if more room is needed. Its adjustable straps can be worn in a variety of positions. It also has an expandable Velcro back to adjust to every body type, which is important, since it only comes in two sizes: XS-L (one size) and XL-Plus.
“I think the downside is that for someone who tends to be on the smaller side, one-size-fits-all products can be frustrating, as they are tailored to be at their most comfortable for women who sit in the medium-to-large range,” added Brooke. “Fortunately there’s a bit of extra fabric at the back so when you clip your bra, you can fold it to help get a better fit.”
Brooke believes the bra would be ideal for working moms who need the freedom to use their hands to improve productivity, but said it’s not really an easy bra to wear to work.
“I don’t think it’s designed to fit well under clothing, so a working mom would have to take everything off to use it, and then get dressed again,” said Brooke. “If the bra was more under-clothing friendly, I could see it being of more practical use.”
Having said that, Brooke would absolutely recommend this bra to new moms for excellent pumping results.
The company, Simple Wishes, has a large range of products including nursing tanks, slips, and feminine lace nursing bras and panties. There are also two versions of the pumping bra. Brooke reviewed the original/standard one, but there’s also a D*Lite pumping bra, which sells for $10 less and does not come with the one-inch zipper insert. The Amazon description of this bra claims the only difference between the two is the lack of insert. Both bras work with all major breast pump brands, including Medela, Philips AVENT, Lansinoh, Bellema, Evenflo, and Spectra Baby.
