Denver Neighborhood Guide: Where Should You Live?

Dozens of publications consider Denver a top city to raise a family. If you want a house with a garden, you can find more details here about what to plant in each season. Are you thinking of relocating to Denver?

Here is a guide on some of the best neighborhoods that are family-friendly:

Littleton

This Gold Rush city was founded in 1859 when gold merchants and seekers settled there. With a population of just over 42,000, this area is not very congested. Littleton has more than 1,477 acres of open space and parks, making it a great place to raise children.

As an area of the city that was once forgotten, Historic Downtown Littleton has undergone a small revival and is slowly becoming a charming and quaint place. You will find a mix of new and hip restaurants as well as unique businesses in Downtown Littleton. The public schools in Littleton score 16 percent more than the state average, which makes them a good choice for your kids.

Highlands Ranch

This community was founded in 1981 and is located in Douglas County. It is one of the most family-friendly neighborhoods in Denver because it has great schools, many outdoor activities, and low crime rates. The suburb is quite populous with more than 100,000 residents.

Highlands Ranch has modern recreation centers and you can become a member by paying reasonable HOA dues. This neighborhood also boasts more than 80 schools, which are tech- savvy and well performing.

Centennial

Depending on the part of this city that you are looking at, you will have great access to the top schools and shopping centers. Centennial offers a wide selection of neighborhoods and price ranges. In terms of schools, you can take your kids to Cherry Creek School District, which is one of the highest-achieving schools in the state.

Washington Park

Known locally as Wash Park, Washington Park is the most well-known park in Denver. The houses in this region are mostly brick bungalows located to the west and east of the park. The region borders the I-25 and is within walking distance to many shops and restaurants such as South Pearl Street.

When you take a walk through this tree-lined community, you will see why it is a good choice for families that want to raise their kids. Built in 1899, this centrally located park occupies 165 acres of land and contains a recreation center with an indoor pool, two lakes, and several tennis courts. There is one high school close to Wash Park; if you do not want to take your kids there, you can always opt for private schools.

As one of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods, Washington Park features old brick homes, which get more expensive as you near the park. Increasingly, investors are buying older homes and updating them but choosing to preserve the old charm with antique and exposed brick finishes.

Parker

This quiet town is easy to access through E-470 and I-25. Parker has a population of about 50,000 and it is known as a town of commuters. One of its highlights is the Western-style, old-school downtown area, which has restaurants and bookshops.

The growing community of Parker has three highly rated schools, making it a great place to bring up your family. When looking for a home, you can choose from a wide variety of homes: horse ranch properties and newer family houses.

Choosing the best neighborhood for your family is not easy but this list will give you a few places to start looking. Make sure that you select a home that meets your current needs.
