A Twist on a Traditional Lemonade

Hooray for summer! Warmer temperatures bring out friends and family and plans for outdoor entertaining. Whether you gather on the patio or backyard, get inspired with a twist on traditional lemonade by serving a pitcher or two of refreshing family-friendly drinks.

Watermelon Lemonade

One can of your favorite lemonade concentrate

8 oz. fresh watermelon, cut into rough chunks (more or less to taste)

Fresh mint leaves, optional

Sliced lemon wheels, optional

Beverage skewers, optional

Prepare your favorite lemonade concentrate as directed on the container. Whirl chunked watermelon in a blender or food processor, pulse until smooth. Add one cup of prepared lemonade to watermelon and pulse again for just a few seconds to blend.

Pour contents of blender or food processor to the pitcher of lemonade and stir to combine. Allow several mint leaves to float in the pitcher and refrigerate to chill, or immediately pour into a glass with ice.

Garnish with your favorite combination of mint leaves, lemon wheel, and small watermelon wedge. Watermelon tends to rise to the surface so serve with a straw to stir.

Variations:

  • Prepare additional lemonade pitchers and substitute watermelon with blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, pineapple, or a combination of fruits. Spear additional fruit and/or mint leaves on a beverage skewer to garnish.
  • Substitute lemonade with iced tea, club soda, or lemon-lime soda.
