We’re on a quest this Summer to find new things to do as a family. We’ve done a lot of the mainstream things Denver has to offer so I’m always keeping an ear out for new and unexpected things to try out. I was standing in line at Target recently when I overheard a conversation about Denver Comic Con being one of the only Comic Cons in the 
country that is promoted as kid friendly. The person talking was explaining that she’d been working on getting her costume together but was surprised she couldn’t order white contacts on Amazon, which I found funny. I’ll admit I’m married to a software engineer so I have some familiarity with “geek culture” but I’ve never thought of myself as someone who would ever attend Comic Con. After doing some investigating, however, it sounds like a fun event for the whole family and I’m actually looking forward to going. Ready to try something new? Here’s everything you need to know:
Denver Comic Con is produced by an educational non-profit organization called Pop Culture Classroom which strives to inspire a love of learning and promote literacy through pop culture education. As a result, Denver Comic Con is not only kid-friendly, it offers a wide range of programs specifically for kids. The 10,000 square-foot “Kids Lab” will have a wide variety of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) focused activities, performances and demonstrations for kids, all of which are included in the price of admission.
Many adult attendees choose to dress up in elaborate costumes (you’d have to be committed to your costume to tolerate white contacts all day). At Denver Comic Con attendees who choose to dress up are expected to adhere to costume guidelines ensuring that all costumes are appropriate for kids. In addition to listing certain requirements, the website reminds participants that costumes must be kept PG.
Comic Con will be in Denver June 30-July 2nd at the Colorado Convention Center. Child tickets (12 and under) are only $8.25 for all three days. Tickets are still available through the Denver Comic Com website ( https://denverpopculturecon.com/). Child tickets can only be purchased along with adult tickets, which range from $38-$44.
